Study Tip: Revise what you have studied

A very important study tip that I learned when doing the Junior Chert was to revise what you have already studied!

There is no point going through all the trouble writing out notes, learning them and

then never touching them again until the day before the exam. The key to performing well in exams is to revise what you have already revised at a later stage.

Have a planner or a special copy dedicated to planning what you study everyday. I wrote a whole blog post on how to make a study timetable. That’s the first step. After you have completed that step, at the end of each day, write down what you have studied. Don’t just write down the subject, write exactly what you have studied. For example:

2nd February 2017:

History - Age of Exploration: Christopher Columbus People in History

Business - Final Accounts

German - Vocab: School

After you have written down what you have studied for the day, go to the page on your diary/planner/calendar exactly one week later (in this case 9th of February) and one month later (in this case 2nd March). On both of these dates, write down that you have to revise what you studied on the 2nd of February.

When you revise what you have already studied, it’s just a quick recap to refresh your memory. Only spend 5 or 10 minutes on this.

If you don’t revise what you have studied, scientific figures have shown that you will only recall 10% of what you have studied the month after you have studied it.
